THE KEYS OF DOMINION
(Matthew 16:19, Genesis 1:28, Ephesians 2:10)
Introduction:
As many of you know, this ministry was birthed from the ashes of a broken marriage (not my will). One day back then after that very rough season, and working on me with God I was in a moment of deep worship when I received a Word of Knowledge from the Holy Spirit: “I have given you the keys.”
I immediately thought of Matthew 16:19, where Jesus tells Peter, "I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven..." I’ve read that verse many times but never fully grasped its significance—until now. I still don’t understand it all, but the Holy Spirit has begun revealing more, and I feel a divine burden to study this, live it, and share it.
I believe this revelation is a key to unlocking heaven’s fragrance in our everyday lives. Everything Jesus did and said—and even the battles of the Old Testament—start to make sense through this lens of dominion. On His end, it is finished. On our end, we are called to usher in His Kingdom—we are His Body, His hands, His feet.
Genesis 1:28
“God blessed them and said, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion...’”
To understand dominion, we must go back to the beginning. In Genesis 1:28, God gave humanity a divine mandate: to multiply, replenish, subdue, and have dominion.
“Subdue” (Hebrew: kabash) – to conquer
“Dominion” (Hebrew: radah) – to rule over
This was more than just procreation—it was about establishing God’s reign on earth through mankind. Some believe (as I do) that the earth had experienced a form of judgment and was being restored. God gave man rulership over this restored creation.
But Satan, jealous of losing authority, deceived Eve. Adam followed, and spiritual death entered. Dominion was lost. Since then, every human born inherits that fallen state. Without being born again, we remain spiritually dead—just like Adam and Eve after the fall.
Jesus came to restore what was lost. He lived a sinless life, took our sin upon Himself, died, and rose again. Now, in Christ, we are made alive (1 Corinthians 15:22). The choice remains:
Conquer, or be conquered.
Ephesians 2:10
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works...”
We weren’t saved just to escape hell—we were saved on purpose and for purpose.
John 3:8 shows that those born of the Spirit are led by the Spirit.
Matthew 16:24 reminds us to take up our cross and follow—this is dominion in action.
1 Corinthians 12:27 tells us we’re all uniquely part of the Body.
When Jesus said in Mark 16 that signs would follow believers—casting out demons, speaking in tongues, healing the sick—He was describing people walking in dominion.
Dominion has a purpose: bearing fruit.
Luke 8:15 tells us the seed on good ground brings forth fruit with patience.
But many Christians today are living beneath their calling—distracted, wounded, or sidetracked. Like Peter walking on water, we start in dominion but begin to sink when we lose focus.
The perfect will of God is the dominion zone. But it’s a fight to live there.
1 Thessalonians 2:18
“We wanted to come to you—but Satan hindered us.”
Even when we’re in God’s will, resistance comes.
Ephesians 6:12: Our battle is spiritual
John 10:10: The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy
1 Peter 5:8: He roams like a lion
2 Corinthians 2:11: He has devices to get advantage over us
Demons can’t rob your salvation, but they’ll do everything they can to block your fruitfulness. These blockages can be:
Generational curses
Unrepented sin
Oppression and deception
Unbelief and fear
The enemy wants to subdue you so you can’t walk in dominion.
But through the blood of Jesus, we have the authority to break strongholds, evict tormenting spirits, and live in victory.
Hebrews 6:12
“Be followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”
The danger is slothfulness—passivity, lukewarmness. We are in the last days, and it’s time to take our place in the Kingdom.
Hebrews 11:33 says the heroes of faith subdued kingdoms, obtained promises, and stopped lions’ mouths.
2 Peter 1:4 tells us we’ve been given great promises—we must activate them.
Jesus taught us to pray, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done…” That’s dominion language.
It means: “Let what is finished in heaven show up in my world!”
Whatever your mountain is—a job, a healing, a deliverance, a lost loved one—you have been given the keys.
Mark 11:23 – “Say to the mountain…” not talk about the mountain. Speak with authority.
Ephesians 3:20
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think—according to the power that works in us…”
The Holy Spirit is our Helper, the Friend who sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24).
Revelation 3:20: He knocks—will you let Him in?
Romans 1:9: Paul served God with his spirit—not just his knowledge.
Power flows from intimacy.
We are the bride of Christ, and we have the keys. When we live out of a relationship with Jesus, we’re not just unlocking doors for ourselves—we’re opening heaven for those around us.
Conclusion:
Every one of us has been given keys of dominion—but keys are meant to be used.
The door of your purpose is waiting. The fragrance of heaven wants to fill your life.
You were born again to conquer, not just survive.
You were chosen to walk in authority—not defeat.
You hold the keys. Use them.Love Pastor Steve & Selfiah
